Shakespearian Actor, Kenneth Branagh, Recieves Knighthood in Queen’s Honour’s List.

The Northern Ireland actor heads a list of celebrities, figures from the world of sport and local people in this Jubilee honours list.  The Titanic and The Reader star Kate Winslet and Gary Barlow, who recently had played a major part in the Queen’s jubilee celebrations, were awarded a C.B.E and O.B.E respectively.

From the world of sport, Former England, Aston Villa and Manchester City goalkeeper David James, Golf hero and world number one Luke Donald and former Welsh international rugby player Shane Williams all received honours.

Locally, recently elected Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson was awarded the O.B.E. Mayor Anderson was, “Surprised and humbled to be honoured for services to local Government and the community.” Also honoured locally was Professor Janet Hemmingway, the Director of Liverpool’s prestigious School of Tropical Medicine, she receives the C.B.E. Further afield, Workington’s Labour M.P Tony Cunningham received a knighthood.

Over 1,200 people were honoured by the Queen, with the overwhelming majority being “unsung heroes” were nominated because of their contribution to their local community.
