Top Of The Pops Live. Theatre Preview. January 21st-26th 2013.
Until the B.B.C. placed the axe squarely on the shoulders of its early evening music flagship programme, Top of the Pops, in its absolute heyday, was a ritual that the whole family sat down to enjoy, chew over and discuss the merits of all the acts that either rose of fell down the top 40.
Now B.B.C. Worldwide have signed a licensing deal with Flying Entertainment to capture the spirit of the iconic television show in a unique theatre production-Top of the Pops Live. The show premieres at the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne before winging its way to the Liverpool Empire Theatre on the 21st-26th January 2013.
Top of the Pops Live will work as a nostalgic interactive jukebox celebrating the biggest stars in the world of pop from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. From T-Rex and David Bowie to the dynamic sounds of Blondie to Adam and the Ants and Duran Duran and onto the Brit-pop battle between Oasis and Blur. It will also throughout play homage to the D.J.s who introduced the T.V. show and the resident dance troops of Pan’s People and Legs and Co., Top of The Pops Live will offer a fabulous feast of musical nostalgia.
When Top of The Pops burst on to B.B.C. screens on New Year’s Day 1964, no one realised what a phenomenon it would go on to be and the much loved iconic status it would hold as audiences watched bands such the Boomtown Rats, Marillion and singers such as Madonna and Carl Douglas show exactly why the U.K. charts and the coveted number 1 slot during these times was nothing short of important.
Tickets for Top of The Pops are on sale now from the Liverpool Empire Box-office, online at www.liverpoolempire.org.uk or by phoning 0844 8713017. Tickets are priced from £10.
