Massoud Hossaini wins Pulitzer Prize for harrowing suicide bombing image
Photojournalist Massoud Hossaini has been confirmed as the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography.
The harrowing image of 12 year old Tarana Akbari dressed in a green dress and headscarf which she now no longer wears shows her surrounded by dead bodies following a suicide attack in Kabul.
The bombing that killed at least 70 people on December 6, 2011 portrays the sheer devastation of war. Members of the dead included 7 of Tarana’s family who had travelled to Kabul to celebrate the Ashura holiday.
Hossaini who works for Agence France-Press who was born in Kabul told Press TV: “I still can’t go back and look at the pictures I took on that Ashura day.”
